So Your Child Wants to Play the Game?
But you need to know more...
Yes, This Is a Contact Sport
So let's cut to the chase: Rugby League is a contact sport, but so is soccer, rugby union, AFL, basketball and netball. Yes, the risk of injury is present, however with proper training it is reduced.
Robina Raptors operates under the jurisdiction of the Gold Coast Rugby League Association, the local district governing body, and a part of the QRL. All official local clubs operate under the jurisdiction of the GCRLA, and all clubs operate under the rules, policies and operational framework set forth by the district, the QRL, and ultimately the NRL.
Nationally, the NRL sets out the playing framework that all clubs abide by:
- U6–U12s play a modified version of the game, referred to as the Junior competition, and they follow the Junior League Laws (6–12).
- U13s+ play international rules. Download a copy of the international rules here.
- However, U6–U16 all operate under a Safe Play Code, and where required the Safe Play Code overrides the international rules of the game. You can also download the Safe Play Code here.
- A Player Development Framework is in place in all regions, and all clubs apply this framework.
- First Aid Officers — Level 1 (Blue Shirt) and Level 2 (Orange Shirt) Sports Trainers — are more highly trained FAOs than in other similar contact sports, and a club needs to provision more of these per player/team than other contact sports. In other words, if an injury does occur, your child is in good hands.
